SEVERAL competitors were disqualified during the scandal-hit 2025 world stone skimming championships.
The annual event took place on the island of Easdale, which has a population of just 61, off the west coast of Scotland.

Despite its tiny setting, the BBC report that more than 2,200 people attended this year’s edition, from 27 different countries.
While the event is held in good spirits, there are strict entrance rules.
Stones selected by participants must come from a “naturally occurring island slate”, and be no more than three inches in diameter.
During an appearance on BBC radio, however, event organiser Dr Kyle Mathews revealed that there had been some cheating.
The skimming supremo, also referred to as the “Toss Master”, said: “There was a little bit of stone doctoring.
“They had shaped it so that it was perfectly circular and fitted our three inch measurer.
“As it’s a piece of metal, I don’t think we can blame it too much.
“The problem was we didn’t just notice at the time that they were suspiciously circular.”

He then vowed to “move on to an even greater event next year”.
This year’s controversial edition was won by Jonathan Jennings.
Jennings, who managed to skim his three stones an astonishing 177 metres, became the event’s first ever American winner.
The maiden edition of the event took place in 1983, and has become a regular fixture on the island since being brought back by locals 14 years later.
In 2024 the world stone skimming championships raised around £15,000, which was pumped back into local charities and community projects.
