SIR JIM RATCLIFFE is reportedly out to break Liverpool hearts by snapping up transfer guru Michael Edwards for Manchester United.

The former Kop director of football was a big part of Jurgen Klopp’s success at Anfield.

Edwards helped the German land top transfer targets like Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

He left Liverpool in May 2022 amid links with Real Madrid and Chelsea.

But the Athletic claims Edwards could instead be returning to the Premier League with United.

The Reds’ fierce rivals look set to add British billionaire Ratcliffe to their group of investors following months of talks.

Sheikh Jassim withdrew his offer for a full takeover after the Glazers rejected his latest £5bn offer.

The Americans are instead set to accept Ratcliffe’s £1.3bn deal for 25 per cent of the club.

And the agreement would also see his INEOS team take charge of United’s football affairs.

It’s reckoned Ratcliffe would immediately like a new director of football to lead the way for future negotiations.

And Edwards’ track record at Liverpool, plus his immediate availability, makes him an ideal candidate.

Should he join United, it would come as a bitter blow to Kop supporters who would love to see Edwards return and plan a new era of domination using the millions gained by a potential sale of Salah to Saudi Arabia.

United are looking at other names too, and one man favoured by Ratcliffe is said to be Paul Mitchell.

He worked with now-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton and Tottenham, helping turn both sides into real Premier League forces.

Mitchell has since worked with German giants RB Leipzig and is currently sporting director of French side Monaco.

But he could jump at the chance to return to England on a bold new project at United.
