BY all accounts Taylor Swift is a very nice lady, one who gave the world bangers such as Love Story and Cruel Summer.
And yet people, nutters, want her dead.

On Sunday night, this international superstar — a woman who gamely speaks out on gender inequality, racism and gay rights — went to cheer on her NFL- playing fiancé, hidden behind a bullet-proof sliding screen.
In the week Charlie Kirk was so senselessly murdered, evidently there have been threats to her life.
Because this, in 2025, is where we are.
Pop stars not allowed to go about their lives over fears — very real fears — they will be assassinated.
Political influencers, men like Charlie, quite literally killed for airing their views.
Regardless of what you made of the late American’s conservative opinions, he should have been allowed them.
And whatever he thought about Taylor Swift, we knew one thing for certain — he would not want her dead.
Charlie’s whole schtick was provoking debate, but in a decent, respectful fashion.
Never have we been closer to George Orwell’s dystopian 1984 vision of the future.
On Sunday night, social media was awash with fans speculating on Taylor’s bullet-proof partition as she attended Travis Kelce’s game alongside her mother, Andrea. Andrea Swift is a 67-year-old woman who has twice battled cancer.
Her only crime? Birthing the planet’s most successful lyricist.
How utterly terrifying this must be.
And how brave of Taylor, who carries “stab bandages” with her because she fears being knifed, to attend.
Ms Swift is a rare superstar who dares to stick her neck above the parapet.
She has already had to invest millions on personal security, a bullet-proof car and state-of-the-art technology to keep the location of her private jet under wraps.
She lives under a constant threat of stalkers.
Her life, it seems, is no longer hers to do with as she pleases. But not once has she moaned.
Openly critical of the Trump regime, in 2018 she declared her support for gun reform, and donated substantially to the March For Our Lives campaign.
She wrote: “No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence. Or to a nightclub. Or to a concert. Or to a movie theatre. Or to their place of worship.”
Gun laws are a political hot potato Stateside.
In today’s incendiary world, where no one is allowed to have an opinion free from opprobrium, it’s little wonder Taylor might face a backlash.
Poor Charlie, a dad of two, who was a staunch advocate of gun rights.
And, tragically, we all now know where that got him.

Writing on X last week, my esteemed colleague, Jeremy Clarkson, noted: “For the first time in my life, I’m genuinely frightened about being a newspaper columnist.”
Because, obviously, the very job of a columnist is to prod, to poke, to stir up debate.
We simply cannot live in a world where people are too terrified to say or write what they really think outside of their own front living rooms.
Charlie Kirk’s senseless killing needs to be a wake-up call to us all.
It should unite Left and Right, not further divide.
BORIS IN HOT WATER
BORIS BECKER’S prison memoirs have been serialised.
Billed as an “unflinching account of his time inside two of the UK’s toughest jails”, perhaps the most telling detail to emerge thus far is that the German tennis star didn’t know what a kettle was.
He muses: “When I first saw the kettle in my cell, I thought it might be for soups, or to store water. I didn’t know how to make the water hot.”
Pity his poor wife.
Now that’s an eager beaver
FINALLY, some cheery news.
Steve, a Northumberland-based beaver who has spent the past few years desperately looking for love, has found The One.

Named after Steve McQueen because of his penchant for making great escapes, in a rampant bid to find Mrs Steve, he has now been rehomed with a lovely young lady beaver in Wales.
“He was driven to find a mate and clearly he wasn’t going to find one in Northumberland,” explains his former ranger, forlornly.
Which, really, doesn’t say much for the totty up there.
HAPPY HARRY
RECOLLECTIONS may indeed vary, Prince Harry.
Britain’s biggest over-sharer is back and insisting his “conscience is clear” in a new interview with The Guardian.
“I don’t believe I aired my dirty laundry in public,” he adds, 18 months after doing precisely this.
No word, yet, from King Charles.
Because, of course, unlike Harry, the King was brought up to never complain, never explain.
The duke, above, goes on to say that he is “very happy with who I am and the life that I live”.
I, too, would be very happy in an £11million Californian mansion, never having to work another day in my life.

GO ECO AFTER CHINA
THE number of Britons who think the dangers of global warming have been exaggerated has jumped by more than 50 per cent in the past four years, research shows.
One in four voters believe concerns over climate change are not as bad as scientists have claimed, amid growing public concern at the cost of the Government’s Net Zero policies.
Less than a third of the public (30 per cent) are in favour of banning new petrol and diesel cars – down from 51 per cent in 2021. It is little wonder.
Environmentalism is endlessly weaponised, and frankly we are sick of it.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Sir Keir, above, and the Green Party can try to make us all feel guilty for driving gas-guzzling, snazzy cars, or using a hosepipe, but until China gets her own house in order, ANYTHING Great Britain does is but a drop in the ocean.
China is a country, after all, whose historical emissions have caused more global warming than the 27 member states of the EU combined.
Once that’s sorted, maybe I’ll start using my 27 different recycling bins.
NOT one to watch with your maiden aunt, but Amazon’s latest raunchy series, The Girlfriend, is a binge corker.
It stars the magnificent Robin Wright and is set in posh London. And I devoured it in four nights. (Mum and Dad: DO NOT stream it.)
