A TEENAGE girl has sadly died after falling unwell at a music festival in Belfast on Sunday night.
And two other people remain in hospital after also becoming ill at the same event.
A girl, aged in her late teens, was taken to hospital after becoming unwell at the Emerge Festival at Boucher Playing Fields in south Belfast.
She later tragically passed away in hospital.
Separately, two other people required emergency treatment after becoming unwell at the music event.
A woman aged in her 30s is in a serious but stable condition after she became sick during the festival.
Meanwhile, a boy aged in his teens also needed to receive treatment after also taking unwell at the festival.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police attended a report of the sudden death of a girl aged in her late teens on Sunday, 24th August, who died in hospital after becoming unwell at an event in south Belfast.
“Additionally, two people remain in hospital after taking ill at the same event.
“A woman aged in her 30s is in a serious but stable condition at this time, while a boy aged in his teens received treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding all reports are ongoing.”
‘UTTERLY HEARTBREAKING’
Alliance Balmoral Councillor Micky Murray expressed his condolences following the incident.
Cllr Murray said: “This is utterly heartbreaking news, and my sincere condolences are with the loved ones of the young individual who has tragically lost their life in these circumstances.
“I also wish for a full and speedy recovery for the other individuals who have been taken to the hospital and are reported to have attended the festival as well.
“Festivals are meant to be safe spaces for people to celebrate their love of music and express themselves, no one expects such a tragic incident to occur in this environment.
“The circumstances of the situation remain unclear, and as a representative on Belfast City Council, I have requested an urgent meeting with Council officers and representatives from Emerge festival.
“I urge people not to speculate, as the police have stated that enquiries are still ongoing.”
