TYSON FURY witnessed a fatal incident as two people were rushed to hospital after a horse collided with punters at Cartmel races.

The Gypsy King was at the northern track to see his horse of the same name run on Monday.

But the afternoon turned sour for the former heavyweight champ and everyone in attendance when Wbee suffered a fatal injury.

The horse went wrong in the third race on the card and was pulled up quickly after the second flight from home.

But in doing so, jockey Alan Doyle was unable to gain full control of the ten-year-old.

It meant the injured horse crashed through the running rail and smashed into punters standing on the other side.

A statement released by Cartmel racecourse confirmed: “Cartmel Racecourse can confirm that during the third race of today’s meeting a horse experienced a veterinary issue that caused it to deviate from the course, where it came into contact with a group of spectators.

“On-site medical teams responded immediately and two people were taken to hospital for further treatment.

“The horse, Wbee, received prompt veterinary attention on site but sadly did not recover.”

The chaotic scenes saw racing delayed by an hour at the Lancashire track – which was hosting its final meeting of the season.

Fury – who recently sold his £800,000 seaside property for a knockdown price – was at Cartmel along with manager Spencer Brown to see two of his horses run.

But he didn’t end up punching the air in celebration for either.

His main hope, Big Gypsy King, could only finish fifth of seven – and last of those who completed the race – after being sent off 28-1 under jockey Charlotte Jones for trainer Jimmy Moffatt in a 2m1f juvenile hurdle.

Fury and Brown had another runner in the shape of Sea The Clouds in the Cavendish Cup, the big race of the day.

But there was no luck for the pair there, either, with the horse being pulled up before three out.

Asked what he loved about Cartmel, which Fury called his ‘favourite racecourse’, he said: “The sunshine, the alcohol and all these people.”
