THE World Grand Prix is set to return for another year of action from the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.

Luke Littler will be hoping to get a first win at the competition under his belt, having lost his debut to Rob Cross in 2024.

Luke Humphries will also be hoping to go one better than he did in 2024, and win the tournament.

He was ousted in the final by a rampant Mike De Decker, who returns in 2025 to defend his crown.

Other darting stars such as Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price will be making their return to the tournament.

SunSport can reveal all the rules and formatting for the Darts World Grand Prix.

World Darts Grand Prix rules

Unlike Premier League Darts and World Matchplay Darts, games are won in sets, rather than legs at the World Grand Prix.

This is the same at the Darts World Championship.

Each set is best-of-five legs, meaning whoever wins three legs first will win the set.

This is how the progression will look throughout the tournament:

First round: best of three sets

Second round & Quarter-finals: best of five sets

Semi-finals: best of seven sets

Final: best of nine sets

The World Grand Prix also uses a ‘double-start’ or ‘double-in, double-out’ format, which other major tournaments do not use.

This format means players must hit either a double or the bullseye to begin scoring in each leg of the match, unlike other games where players are free to start scoring as they wish.

The ‘double-start’ format was the downfall of Littler during the tournament last year, struggling to get going in his loss to Cross.
