O’Sullivan, 49, was set to open his tournament against Sanderson Lam in a qualifying match on Monday night.
But to the disappointment of fans he has withdrawn and a reason for his decision has now been confirmed.
Why is Ronnie O’Sullivan not playing in the British Open 2025?
The Rocket’s last match came in the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters final defeat to Neil Robertson on August 16.
He subsequently decided to skipped the Wuhan Open and then opt out of the English Open, despite the event happening just a few miles down the road from where he grew up in Brentwood.
O’Sullivan will not feature at the British Open for medical reasons.
The issue he is suffering from has not been revealed.
Now based in Dubai, having relocated from Essex, O’Sullivan posted a video of himself hard at work in the gym on Instagram.
